FAQs

ict active is a new accreditation designed to help workspace owners and managers evaluate their ICT infrastructure and develop it into a successful revenue stream.

ict active accreditation enables you to differentiate your buildings from the rest of the market by demonstrating the effectiveness of your ICT facilities. Properties that participate in the scheme now will be leading the field and have the opportunity to be among the first in the country to be recognised.

How can I gain ict active accreditation?

In order to become ict active accredited, properties are required to undergo an assessment to establish their ICT capabilities. The assessment is carried out by a specialist in ICT infrastructure and uses a weighted points system to take into consideration factors such as age of building and target market. When your property passes the assessment you will gain ict active accreditation.

Is my property right for ict active?

The ict active assessment is designed to suit all kinds of buildings. We recognise that whilst some buildings are run on an easy-in / easy-out basis, other properties are aimed at long term tenants who may want to provide their own ICT. There are two levels of accreditation you can receive: ict active and leading edge. These varied levels correspond with the level of ICT infrastructure your property has and illustrate the kind of tenant it is aimed at. Before your workspace undergoes assessment a member of the ict active team will discuss with you issues such as who it is targeted at and the lease terms. The weighting system used in the survey ensures that the assessment is suitable for a wide range of buildings.

What happens after the assessment?

Once your property has been assessed you will be accredited as ict active or leading edge and receive a plaque and certificate to denote your status. Your property will also be listed on www.ictactive.net which has a search engine that enables prospective tenants to search for their ideal property. You will also receive a copy of your building’s assessment report which can be shown to tenants to prove the ICT capabilities of your building.

Due to the evolving nature of ICT each accredited site will need to be re-assessed each year.

Can the provision of a good ICT infrastructure really act as a selling point?

In today's technological world ICT is at the heart of almost every company. Whether it be the ability to correspond via email or the facility to hold a video conference, the provision of ICT is crucial to the business world. A survey by the Confederation of British Industry indicated that companies across the UK invested £10.6 billion on internet technology alone in 2006. By getting your building accredited you will be part of a continually growing market that is at the heart of business.

Is ict active a national scheme?

At present ict active is launching in South Yorkshire but the accreditation is designed with national roll-out in mind and will therefore be appropriate for all areas.
How much does an assessment cost?

Due to Objective One European funding through Yorkshire Forward and Business Link all assessments are free if you register before April 2008.
